Riprap, by Gary Snyder

Before your mind like rocks.
             placed solid, by hands
In choice of place, set
Before the body of the mind
             in space and time:
Solidity of bark, leaf, or wall
             riprap of things:
Cobble of milky way,
             straying planets,
These poems, people,
             lost ponies with
Dragging saddles—
             and rocky sure-foot trails.
The worlds like an endless
             four-dimensional
Game of Go.
             ants and pebbles
In the thin loam, each rock a word
             a creek-washed stone
Granite: ingrained
with torment of fire and weight
Crystal and sediment linked hot
             all change, in thoughts,
As well as things.

Flippant Colors

Blue can be an endless sky…
or a tear in the eye

Pink can be a brilliant wildflower…

or a cancer reminder full of sorrow

Yellow can be the dancing sun…
or a football referee waving the flag after a sweet play was done

Red can be the firey dress of a Salsa dancer…

or a check mark of a pen at the wrong answer

Green can be the bud of a leaf beckoning for spring…

or a fighting army in camo doing their thing

Orange can be a juicy bite of the fruit…

or a hair color gone bad down to the root

Purple can be a radiant sunset…

or a metal heart given to the wounded we’ll never forget

Black can be a comfort to sleepy eyes…

or the deep, dark depths of where the soul cries

White can be a canvas ready to become…
or a noise without any apparent rhythm

Purify, my soul by Natalie Kresen

Things are happening lately that I don’t understand
like puddles of rain rising,
evaporating out of
my mouth.

My mouth: coughing up steam, crying out
stories, I’m pulsing with
memories racing
like blood clots through my veins.

They say we store memories in the
body like fat, hold them deep within
our skin.

Past traumas just dormant.

A kink in the knee, an ache in the
back, it’s all there, intertwined with
us like colors of paint, swirling with blood,
guts,
oxygen.

They say the mind maps
our response systems. It takes a long
time to rewire a brain, carve out new
pathways for thinking.

This is not easy
to do.
Takes years of hard
work, diligence, commitment.

We are afraid of our own power,
we mute it, dilute it with doubt.

Doubt–

we swallow like pills, keeping us in
our safe little worlds.

Fear–

I throw it up,
shovel it out like rocks
in soil, dig down deep,
purify, my soul.

nataliekresen’s preposterous
Stumbling through…

Set your ♥ Free, by Julie

What is it for you?
Love, pray, hug
Smile, laugh, breathe
Kiss, see, giggle?

Surf, singletrack, ski
Dance, sing, write
Cry, sweat, nuzzle?

                           Read, absorb, paint
                           Capture, talk, touch
                           Ride, walk, lay?

Listen, sleep, express
Jump, feel, stretch
Knit, meditate, intertwine?

                           Melt, mourn, think
                           Excite, live, rest
                           Create, share, admire?

Squeeze, change, learn
Dream, hope, connect
Play, pause, care?

All of it…whenever, wherever, however, whatever. Moments that matter to our heart.

But with who?

Oh sooo many. We touch here and there, and every look, smile, word, kiss, hug, thought, intention: It all counts…mmmmmm.

We are all so different, yet so similar.

Life makes you turn around to see what you’ve missed the first time, and then you finally understand the true meaning.

Get out there and share your ♥.
